Palo Alto High’s field hockey team is scheduled to host Los Gatos at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, according to Paly’s official athletics calendar.
The Vikings lost 1-0 to Valley Christian on Monday, Oct. 5, according to MaxPreps, four days after shutting out Monta Vista 9-0.
Paly used its comfortable lead against Monta Vista on Thursday, Oct. 1, to work on passing and experiment with positions, Viking Magazine reported.
Senior Zoe Ferring, one of Paly’s main defenders, scored a goal. Lucia Davis earned player-of-the-game honors, according to MaxPreps.
Senior Elena Salvatierra said the team played to its standard but still sees room to grow.
“I think moving forward when we don’t get a goal the first time, we need to make some back passes and be more strategic with our spacing,” Salvatierra told Viking Magazine.
Salvatierra called a defender scoring the biggest moment of the match.
Head coach Alexa Gwyn emphasized teamwork in an August preseason interview with The Paly Voice. Gwyn said her goal was to help the team “work as a collective whole rather than only focusing on their individual development.”
Before the Monta Vista win, Paly beat Presentation 5-0 on Sept. 17, then topped Saratoga 4-2 on Sept. 22. Wins over Lynbrook (7-0 on Sept. 24) and Santa Clara (3-0 on Sept. 29) followed, according to MaxPreps.
Paly entered the season with a young roster. The Paly Voice reported that the team included one freshman and three sophomores. The Vikings finished third in the El Camino division last year with an 8-5-1 league record and 11-7-1 overall, according to the preseason report.
