Palo Alto residents looking to get their hands dirty the week of July 14 have at least three local options, from a guided wetlands hike along the Bay Trail to a flower-growing class at Rinconada Library.

Gamble Garden mixes herbs into happy hour

Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden, the 2.5-acre nonprofit garden on Waverley Street, hosts its "Garden-to-Glass: A Summer Mocktail Experience" on Friday, July 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Horticultural staff will demonstrate handcrafted mocktails made with herbs, fruits and edible flowers grown on-site. A charcuterie spread with vegan and gluten-free options is included.

Gamble Garden recently announced the event on Instagram.

Tickets are $60 for members and $75 for nonmembers. The garden, originally the 1902 estate of Edwin Gamble (son of Procter & Gamble co-founder James Gamble), has operated as a free public garden at 1431 Waverley St. since 1985.

Ravenswood marsh walk explores wetland adaptation

Docent naturalists Bobbie Riedel and Melissa Hero lead a free two-mile guided walk along the Bay Trail at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve in East Palo Alto on Friday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants meet at the Ravenswood parking area at the end of Bay Road.

The walk covers how native marsh plants and wildlife have adapted to the Bay's salt and tidal conditions, how climate change is reshaping local wetlands, and what agencies are doing to protect shoreline habitats. The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District lists the event on its activities page; the original listing does not specify whether advance registration is required.

Closer to home, the Environmental Volunteers EcoCenter in the Palo Alto Baylands is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.inconada Library
