Jasmine Aikey, the Palo Alto native who led Division I in points last fall while earning a computer science degree from Stanford, was named College Sports Communicators Overall Academic All-American of the Year on July 29.

The honor recognizes the top student-athlete across all Division I sports, men's and women's.

Aikey is only the third Stanford athlete ever to win the overall award, joining football's Tommy Vardell (1991-92) and swimmer Katie Ledecky (2017-18).

"I came to Stanford hoping to grow as both a student and an athlete, and what I found was a place that never asked me to choose between the two," Aikey said in a statement released by Stanford Athletics. "I am grateful to my coaches, teammates, and professors who made both possible."

Three names in 34 years.

The 21-year-old forward capped a senior season in which she scored an ACC-best 21 goals and tallied 53 points, the most by an ACC player since North Carolina's Casey Nogueira posted 58 in 2008. Aikey led Division I in points, finished second nationally in game-winning goals with seven, and scored in 16 of her 25 matches. She won the MAC Hermann Trophy, college soccer's equivalent of the Heisman, and was named TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Year.

On the field, Aikey helped Stanford reach the NCAA championship game for the third consecutive year. The Cardinal fell 1-0 to Florida State on Dec. 8, 2025.

Stanford head coach Paul Ratcliffe called the award a reflection of Aikey's commitment to both academics and championship-level play, saying her leadership embodies the standard for Stanford student-athletes.

After graduating, Aikey signed a two-year contract with NWSL expansion club Denver Summit FC through the 2027 season, with a mutual option for 2028. She was called up to the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team camp in February 2026 but suffered a season-ending ACL tear in her right knee during a March camp. Denver placed her on the Season-Ending Injury list on March 23 and she began rehab with the club's medical staff.

Aikey grew up minutes from Stanford's campus. Nearby, Stanford Strikers FC recently gained acceptance into the ECNL Regional League, expanding competitive pathways for young players in the area who aspire to reach the college and professional levels.

Stanford produced 30 Academic All-Americans across 13 sports in 2025-26, with student-athletes carrying a 3.653 cumulative GPA and a 97 percent graduation rate. The university extended its NCAA team championship streak to 50 consecutive years.

Aikey's next milestone: returning to the pitch for Denver Summit FC's 2027 NWSL season.
