Palo Alto High senior quarterback Justin Fung leads the Central Coast Section (CCS) in passing with 575 yards and 10 touchdowns through two games, and he hasn't thrown an interception yet.

Friday, Sept. 11, Fung and the 2-0 Vikings will try to keep it going against Bellarmine College Preparatory (2-0) at San Jose City College. Both programs are riding turnaround seasons under first-year head coaches.

Paly went 0-10 in 2025. Bellarmine went 2-8, part of a 4-26 stretch over three seasons, the Mercury News reported. New head coach Edward Tonga took over the Vikings; Tom Williams, a former Stanford linebacker who later coached at Yale and with the Jacksonville Jaguars, took over the Bells.

Two games in, both programs are unrecognizable.

Paly opened with a 56-14 rout of Leigh on Aug. 28, a game in which Fung threw six touchdown passes. The Vikings followed that with a 45-21 win over Leland on Sept. 4. Fung went 13-for-19 for 355 yards and four touchdowns against Leland, adding a rushing score, according to his post-game social media recap.

Junior running back Kaleb Osotonu has rushed for more than 200 yards and two touchdowns through two games. He told the Paly Voice the team is managing minor injuries heading into Friday but remains confident.

"Bellarmine is probably one of the best teams that we play non-league, but I feel like if we play like how we played against Leigh, we should be out there dominating and doing what we do best," Osotonu said.

Bellarmine's path to 2-0 has been tighter. The Bells edged Campolindo 17-16 on Sept. 5 after running back Justin Donahue carried 18 times for 169 yards and ran out the clock in the fourth quarter, per the Mercury News. Campolindo missed an extra-point attempt with 4:01 left that would have tied the game.

Williams told the Mercury News after the Campolindo win that belief is building within the program. "I like our team, I like our attitude, and I like where we're at," he said.

Tonga told the Paly Voice the preparation hasn't changed week to week. He credited the team's early success to buy-in from his players, saying the chemistry he has preached since taking the job has carried the Vikings to their 2-0 record.

Junior wide receiver Bronson Lindgren, who moved to Palo Alto from Michigan over the summer, scored three touchdowns in the Leigh opener, including a 60-yard reception. He and Osotonu give Fung weapons that Paly lacked a year ago.

Kickoff is Friday night at San Jose City College.
