Kevin Richardson and Jason Fisk spent years tackling opponents in Stanford Stadium.
Starting Aug. 29, they'll be describing the action from the radio booth.
Stanford announced Thursday, July 30, that Richardson, a former Cardinal linebacker from the class of 1988, and Fisk, a defensive lineman from the class of 1994 who played 12 years in the NFL, will serve as the program's new radio broadcast team. Richardson will handle play-by-play. Fisk will provide color commentary.
Broadcasts will air on KNBR (680 AM/104.5 FM) and KTCT 1050 AM, Cumulus Media's Bay Area sports stations.
Their debut comes in the season opener against Hawai'i on Saturday, Aug. 29, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. on ACC Network. It's also the first game under head coach Tavita Pritchard, who opened fall camp on Wednesday, July 29.
The hiring reunites a pair that already worked together at San Jose State. Richardson spent the last three seasons as the Spartans' play-by-play voice and had an 18-year affiliation with the program. Fisk served as San Jose State's color analyst during the 2024 season.
Richardson: 289 tackles, then 18 years behind the mic
Richardson played inside linebacker for Stanford from 1984 to 1988, compiling 289 tackles over 25 starts as the defense's signal caller. A Salinas native, he also called games for the Bay Area Panthers of the Indoor Football League.
Off the field, Richardson chaired the Buck/Cardinal Club from 2005 to 2008, a stretch when donations grew from $3 million to $8 million, according to Stanford Athletics. He currently works as an independent financial advisor in Monterey County.
His wife, Teresa Smith '88, was a two-time All-American on Stanford's women's volleyball team and a Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. Their oldest son, Jack, walked on as a Cardinal quarterback in 2016 before earning a scholarship two years later.
Fisk: Super Bowl sack, then the classroom
Fisk's Stanford career peaked with a senior season in which he led the Cardinal in sacks (6) and tackles for loss (11), earning All-Pac-10 Second Team honors in 1994. He earned degrees in biology and psychology before the Minnesota Vikings selected him in the seventh round of the 1995 NFL Draft.
Over 182 NFL games with five teams, Fisk recorded 394 tackles and 19 sacks. His Super Bowl XXXIV highlight: sacking Rams quarterback Kurt Warner while playing for the Tennessee Titans.
A Davis, California, native, Fisk hosted his own radio show in Nashville during his Titans years. After retiring in 2006, he coached at UC Davis, Davis High School, and Vacaville High School. He now teaches at Chartwell School in Monterey County, mentoring children with dyslexia and other learning differences.
His son Tucker played tight end at Stanford from 2018 to 2021 and has appeared in 25 NFL games for the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers.
Pritchard opens camp as new voices join booth
The broadcast shakeup arrives as Pritchard tries to rebuild a program that went 4-8 last season. Speaking after the first day of fall camp on July 29, Pritchard said his players had put in the summer work: "They've been here, working with our strength and conditioning staff. They've had player-run practices and so they've been in the playbook hard."
The pair's next assignment after the opener: Stanford hosts Miami on Saturday, Sept. 5, in its first ACC home game of the season.
