Millie and El Camino Health plan to open a maternity clinic in early December in Los Altos, near Palo Alto, combining midwife-led outpatient care with hospital delivery services.
The organizations announced the partnership Oct. 15 as a Palo Alto clinic. Millie’s current location page identifies the site as 4300 El Camino Real, Suite 201, in Los Altos.
The planned services include preconception and prenatal care, miscarriage management, lactation support, mental health counseling, nutrition guidance and postpartum care, according to the partners’ announcement. Postpartum services are expected to include a home visit and remote monitoring.
Patients will receive clinic care through Millie, with births taking place at El Camino Health’s Mountain View hospital, according to Millie’s website. Midwives will work with the hospital’s obstetricians and specialists.
El Camino Health reports approximately 5,000 births annually. Its Mountain View campus includes the Melchor Family Center for Women and Newborns, which provides maternity and neonatal intensive care.
“We built Millie to reimagine maternity care around what families need: a connected and supportive experience with better outcomes,” founder and CEO Anu Sharma said in the announcement.
In an interview with Healthcare Innovation, Sharma described gaps in postpartum care, education and mental health support. She estimated that 75% to 80% of pregnancies are low risk and argued that midwives can reduce interventions for lower-risk patients.
Millie employs certified nurse-midwives, with OB-GYN support available when needed. The company opened its first clinic in Berkeley in 2022.
In February 2025, Fierce Healthcare reported that Millie had cared for about 2,000 patients and raised a $12 million Series A round, bringing total funding to nearly $19 million.
El Camino Health CEO Dan Woods said the partnership would extend maternity services to more families. The announcement also listed the health system’s recognition in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
The partners said the clinic would be the first in a planned series across Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, with another South Bay location in development.
The announcement cited CDC data showing that women 35 and older accounted for about 21% of U.S. births in 2023, compared with about 9% in 1990. The organizations said their model was designed with changing patient needs in mind.
Millie also operates clinics in Berkeley and San Jose. Its insurance FAQ lists participating plans by location. Prospective patients can contact the new clinic at 650-353-9190 to confirm coverage and appointment availability.
