Palo Alto High’s girls flag football team will seek its first league victory in its final scheduled league game Monday, Oct. 26, at Wilcox after losing 39-6 to Los Gatos on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The Vikings are 5-12 overall and 0-9 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s De Anza Division, according to MaxPreps. Monday’s game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., according to Paly’s athletics schedule.

The Los Gatos result extended Paly’s losing streak to nine games. It followed a 35-0 loss to Milpitas on Monday, Oct. 19.

Paly moved to the De Anza Division this season after finishing first in the El Camino Division last year. A Midpeninsula Post preseason report listed the team’s previous overall record as 14-4.

Against Milpitas, the Vikings were missing junior quarterback Eleanor Wells because of illness, Viking Magazine reported. Sophomores Mia Wong and Lauren Boyce filled in at quarterback.

Milpitas scored its first touchdown later in the opening quarter and led 21-0 at halftime.

“It’s one of our last games of the season, let’s fight hard!” senior captain Zoe Quintana told her teammates at halftime, according to Viking Magazine.

Paly changed its defensive approach after the break and held Milpitas scoreless in the third quarter. Sophomore Paulina Dubey intercepted a pass, creating another offensive opportunity for the Vikings.

Freshman Bailey Boyd caught a pass and nearly scored, but a defender pulled her flag before she reached the end zone.

Sophomore Kendall Kageyama praised her teammates for continuing to work hard despite missing players, Viking Magazine reported.

Milpitas added two touchdowns during the final four minutes to finish the 35-0 victory.
